SO'OTAGA
Talofa lava,
Malo le soifua ua maua ma le lagi e mamā.
Bishop Viard College would like to proudly introduce The Family So'otaga programme into our college.
THE PURPOSE OF THE FAMILY SO’OTAGA PROGRAMME
The name "So'otaga" was chosen as it translates to "connection" in Samoan. We hope to strengthen the connections with our families to develop a deeper "connection" to Bishop Viard College, based on a relationship that is focused on academic and emotional growth for your child. Relationships are at the heart of our people and we want to connect with our families at a deeper level so they can approach us about anything. We also hope to "connect" our families to external agencies and or information that will remove barriers to learning.
WHAT WE AIM FOR
-
A connection between school and home
-
A connection between home and the students next learning steps
-
A connection between the Whānau and the Child's future learning path
THE HISTORY OF THE PROGRAMME
We created this initiative alongside our community within a Pasifika and Māori framework at Holy Family School four years ago. The programme has been very successful in building a school that serves the needs of its students. The programme is flexible and we would like to hear from our communities voice to listen and respond to the various needs to shape the programme.
OUR VISION FOR IMPLEMENTING THE PROGRAMME IN OUR COLLEGE
Our vision is to work with families to develop a better understanding of what Bishop Viard College should deliver for their students. It is also to boost the confidence of our families about approaching the school so that they fully understand exactly where their son/daughter is at with their learning and can ask some harder questions of the school regarding delivering the high-quality education that their child deserves.
